A LARGE RECLAIMED ANTIQUE PAINTED PINE FIRE SURROUND WITH MARBLE SLIPS
Details
A large, elegant, reclaimed painted pine fire surround dating to C.1920. The fire surround is in the Georgian Revival style with a very ornate design with a large, shaped, mantel with decorative mouldings around the front and side edges. There is a very nice repeating flower border under the mantel. The crossbar has a classical face with swags in the centre and there are decorative scrolled corbels on either side. There is a pretty carved leaf border around the fire opening. The pine has been painted in a pale grey. The surround comes with three pale marble slips with nice veining. See picture 2 showing the slips which are not currently fitted to the surround. Please see the last picture for the fire surround with the slips in place - PLEASE NOTE THE DARK SLATE AND HEARTH IS NOT INCULDED. The slips are designed to sit within the inner opening, running down the inner legs and under the crossbar.
The fire surround is in solid reclaimed condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The surround has some knocks and light damage. The outer edges of the legs and the back of the mantel have some damage, splits and splintering from the removal of the surround from its original position. The sides of the legs and the back of the mantel are missing the grey paint. The mantel front and side edges have some knocks. The paint has some chips and you may wish to sand and re-paint the surround to suit. The marble slips have some small chips. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a lovely example of Georgian Revival design and is a fine quality item and of a great size, perfect for making a fantastic period feature for a fireplace.
